The tunnel stretched long and deep, swallowing Ribbitz and Gorr into the belly of the unknown. The flickering torchlight barely cut through the darkness, revealing only glimpses of the past etched into the stone walls.
Footsteps echoed. Not just theirs.
The air was thick, damp, filled with the scent of time itself—earth, metal, and something… older.
Ribbitz took a slow pull from his cigar, exhaling into the void ahead. This wasn’t just a passage. It was a doorway.
Gorr shifted, ears twitching. “Yo… you hear that?”
Ribbitz stopped. Listened.
Somewhere ahead—a rhythmic thudding.
Like a slow, steady heartbeat.
Ribbitz smirked. “Aight. Now we got ourselves a real adventure.”
They pushed forward, the walls tightening around them, the carvings shifting in design. No longer battle scenes, but something else.
Faces.
Watching.
Thousands of them, carved into the walls—expressions frozen in time. Some screaming. Some grinning. Others… hollow-eyed.
Gorr exhaled sharply. “Yeah, this ain’t normal.”
Then—movement.
Not from the walls.
From below.
The ground beneath them shuddered, a faint tremor rolling through the passage like something had just stirred in its sleep.
Ribbitz flicked his cigar, watching the ash disappear into the shadows. “Yeah… we ain’t alone down here.”
And then—a whisper.
Faint. Distant.
But real.
A voice, drifting up from the abyss ahead.
Calling them by name.
