A group of astronomers has discovered an exoplanet that may be covered with water
The planet was named HD 207496b, orbiting a young K-dwarf called HD-207496.
The newly discovered world may have either a gaseous atmosphere, or a global water ocean, or a mixture of both, the researchers note.
Modeling of such a world has shown that the atmosphere of HD-207496b, consisting of helium and hydrogen, cannot remain stable under such conditions.
Astronomers also noted that the in-depth characterization of young exoplanets will provide scientists with more data on the physical processes that form planetary systems.
