I was thinking about content piracy on DeSo. Imagine the following scenario:

Person A creates an amazing piece of advice and gates the content for $100. People unlock the content and love it. Person B recognizes the success, unlocks the content, copies it, and then posts it for a $50 unlock.

Can Person A do anything against such a piracy attack? @mossified @nader&#x20;

If pirating cannot be suppressed, I think the only "solution" to the problem would be to offer content so cheap that pirating doesn't really make sense. This would imply though that a creator cannot really opt for a "premium product" strategy. In such a scenario, a creator could only opt for a mass market low price strategy.&#x20;


Reputation carries a lot of weight. Anyone doing that strategy will lose his ability to get much value out of it as soon as word gets around that, it is what he is doing.



Also for premium strategies, timing is usually important. A strategy given in time is worth 2-10X the same strategy if given a day or two later.&#x20;

In each case, the smaller the creator is, the more likely a consumer is to support them. Everyone is morally okay with pirating faceless organizations--but seeing someone's face, seeing that they are a fellow human who needs to make a living, along with you valuing a service they provide, I think always wins.

Amazon still [makes loads of profit off ebooks](https://automateed.com/amazon-book-sales-statistics/ "makes loads of profit off ebooks") despite how 'easy' it is to pirate.



Besides, on the realm of physical books, material was still "pirated" (imo)! Look at the 'First Sale Doctrine' in public libraries or used bookstores, which do not support the original author. On the other hand, is Amazon 'protecting' authors, yet hurting consumers by revoking the ability to [download and backup books](https://www.theverge.com/news/612898/amazon-removing-kindle-book-download-transfer-usb "download and backup books") - (you don't own it)

Three positives for decentralized social:

* ability for the USERS to be labelers of content, i.e - I trust that communities will label this secondary material as pirated, spam, etc.
* And as @randhir said, the reputation will diminish, which creates a higher incentive to be a kind, upstanding human being. People on here, and I assume all web3, don't interact or buy into those without rep.

Most people, if there's a buy button will click buy, instead of trying to find a loop around... and with good labels, good UI's, reputation, pirated content will never be used in the first place, anyways...


How to prevent piracy of content:



1. Create gated content as NFT 
2. Prevent others from downloading or screenshoting content.
3. Permit downloading with watermark.
4. Showing original content creator or owner(s) of the content (nft) to the buyers like how focus showing original poster in comments section.
5. Searching for the content or NFT on blockchain for verification before buying it.
6. Etc.



Trading has to be done within the verified accounts group of "ME". Trading outside the group results permanent loss of funds.
