Duke Ellington. 

The show was a tribute to Ellington’s enduring legacy, featuring many of his most famous compositions.

Rather than following a traditional plot, Sophisticated Ladies was structured as a stylish, high-energy revue, featuring dazzling dance numbers and elegant costuming reminiscent of the Harlem Renaissance.
