Chapter 14: Buried Truths

The fallen pillar loomed before them, cracked and weathered, a silent guardian over whatever lay beneath. Ribbitz tapped his watch once, then flicked his cigar.

“Aight, let’s stop wastin’ time. You ready, big fella?”

Gorr snorted. “I was born ready.”

The warthog dug his hooves into the dirt, muscles flexing as he pressed his massive shoulder against the stone. Ribbitz crouched beside him, placing his hands against the rough surface.

“On three,” Ribbitz muttered.

Gorr cracked his neck. “Just say go.”

“Go.”

They pushed.

The pillar groaned, resisting at first, then shifted with a deep, grating sound as centuries of dust and stone gave way. With one final heave, it tilted—then crashed to the side, sending a shockwave through the ruins.

Silence followed.

Then… the ground beneath them trembled.

A gust of stale air rushed from the exposed opening beneath where the pillar once stood. A passage.

Ribbitz took a slow step forward, peering into the darkness below. The air was thick, heavy with the scent of time itself.

Gorr grunted. “Welp. Ain’t no turnin’ back now.”

Ribbitz smirked. “Never was.”

He flicked his cigar, letting the ashes fall into the abyss. Then, without hesitation, he stepped inside.

The shadows swallowed them whole.
