World Meteorological Day is celebrated on March 23rd. It was established to commemorate the launch of the Convention establishing the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), whose objective is to ensure the well-being, protection, and security of all humanity.

World Meteorological Day has been celebrated since 1997, and each year the more than 180 Member States of the World Meteorological Organization celebrate this day, focusing on an issue of interest to humanity.

Each year, a theme is established to work on. The theme for World Meteorological Day 2024 is "At the Forefront of Climate Action." This theme aims to highlight the problems caused by climate change in the world, as a real and undeniable threat.

The idea is to reflect on the importance of protecting meteorology to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. For example, weather and climate predictions help boost food production and move closer to zero hunger. They also help us understand and manage climate-sensitive diseases. We could continue citing examples to understand how important meteorology is for our future and the future of the planet.

What is meant by meteorology?
Meteorology is a science that studies all the phenomena that occur in the Earth's atmosphere, such as weather, wind, rain, and others.

Meteorology and Climate Change
In recent decades, there has been an increase in meteorological phenomena such as hurricanes, thunderstorms, droughts, forest fires, floods, and others, which pose a major threat to human life on the planet.

All of this has caused far-reaching climate change, which has led to the disappearance of many species, large marine and terrestrial ecosystems, and the death of millions of human beings.
