Villagers of Semunying Jaya in Indonesia have fought against palm oil companies to reclaim their rainforest, which they depended on for their livelihoods. A government land grab in 2004 allowed companies to replace the forest with oil palm plantations, leading to environmental degradation and declining wildlife. The community partnered with NGOs to take legal action, but despite court rulings, palm oil producers ignored fines and failed to address the damages.
