Six women — including pop star Katy Perry, TV host Gayle King,Jeff Bezos’s fiancée Lauren Sánchez and three crews mates Amanda Nguyen, Aisha Bowe and Kerianne Flynn, safely journeyed to the edge of space and back today aboard Blue Origin’s New Shepard launch vehicle, developed for space tourism.

The crew lifted off from West Texas at 9:31 a.m. ET (1331 GMT) and reached the Kármán line, the internationally recognised boundary of space, where they experienced three minutes of weightlessness before returning to Earth.

This marks the first all-female crewed spaceflight since Soviet cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova's solo mission in 1963 — the first woman in space.
