Fastan let out a big sigh and waved Ralne over to the couch where he and Tana were sitting.
“I have a few things I should have explained to you both. I’m sorry that I didn’t tell you earlier. I was embarrassed and optimistic and I was hoping you would never need to find out. I don’t really have a job here in Vazakwani. Nausani is a friend of mine that I met in grief counseling after your mother died.”
“Nausani knew that we needed to move away from Nelutra and offered us to stay in this model facility that they use to showcase to potential residents. Nausani is on the Vazakwani council and said that if I could find an investor for a new city plantation that I could lead the team along with paid residency. I was desperate to get us out of Nelutra and I took the opportunity without really thinking it through. I’m sorry that I didn’t tell you two. I didn’t want you to worry and I really believe that we will find an investor. I just need to keep looking. Three weeks is a long time.”
Fastan finally stopped talking. Ralne and Tana sat silently on the couch looking at the floor. A few minutes passed before Tana spoke up.
“So if you don’t though, where will we go then?”
“Well, that is not going to happen Tana, but if for some it did we would just have to find an apartment in Nelutra. There is plenty of work there and I am sure I can find a job in the factories. We will be fine, but I don’t want you worrying about that. I’m going to find an investor and we will move into a permanent home that will be exactly like this one just in some other location. We might even get an extra room if we’re lucky.
“Wait, we have to move again?” Ralne asked.
“Well yes, I know its a lot but this house was only temporary. It’s a show unit for prospective buyers and Nausani was kind enough to let us stay here until I land a contract. It was a part of the deal, and she told me we would have longer.”
“I don’t think we’re supposed to be here dad,” Ralne said to his father. “When I scanned the terminal I wasn’t registered, and Nausani told the commons clerk that I was her son.”
“What?” Fastan replied. “That’s strange. I wonder if there was some sort of mix up or something. We will get that straightened up in the morning. For now, let’s eat some dinner. Kids, get your desks cleaned off while I unpackage dinner.”
