Daily Dairy 6 January Today, I am finally leaving home to return to college as my winter vacation comes to an end. It feels bittersweet bidding farewell to my parents. At times, I reflect on my emotions, wondering if I'm overly sentimental. As a child, witnessing others leave and cry, I thought it was exaggerated or acted. Now, in my adulthood, I find myself teary-eyed when parting from my parents. Do any of you experience similar emotions?
Yes, but worse. When your parents are elderly with illnesses and cancer, the fear is not of a temporary goodbye. It’s a fear of wondering how long you have and will the “goodbye” be the last one.
I didn’t realize you are so young. You are younger than my daughter. So, I’d say to you, you must go out and live your life and you can’t live it fully if held back by too much sentiment. But when the opportunity arises to see your parents…take it! Don’t brush it off and when with them…live in the moment. Absorb it. Make memories. Parents LOVE their children. Most don’t want to be a burden and want you to succeed!! But we always secretly want more time with our adult children 🙂
