🥰 Aww, here’s a picture in the daylight of our triplets. You can tell their ages by how dirty and speckled they are, ha! The one that looks like it has a little blue-ish glowing tint to it is our newest addition, aww. Don’t worry- give it another day or two of rolling around, and egg number three will start to look just as dirty as its siblings. Before they hatch, it’ll be difficult to tell them apart.
🐣 Last year, our eggs were named ND18 and ND19. ND, meaning Notre Dame (Nest), and the 18 and 19 being how many eggs total have hatched at this nest since the study began. Technically, this will be Mom’s 3rd, 4th and 5th, but it’ll be New Dad’s 1st, 2nd and 3rd. 🤪 So for simplicity’s sake, we’ll go by the classic nest count, and our new additions this year will be, when hatched: ND20, ND21, and ND22.
👀 I’ve been keeping an eye on things today, and there’s no fourth egg.. yet. 😳🤷♀️ I was a little surprised to see New Dad spent the majority of the day incubating, so Mom couldn’t sneak an in extra egg today even if she’d tried. Haha. 😆 Based on when the first egg was laid, though (last Sunday), her egg-laying window should be closing, soon. So I “think” we’ll be safe with 3.. 🤔 She’s full of surprises, though, so I’ll check again tomorrow. I honestly wouldn’t put it past her to pop out a quick 4th one tonight before bed. 🤦♀️😂 She did the 3rd one without New Dad in the nest, I was a little surprised.
🤞🏼 New Dad brought a bunch of fluffy hay this morning, and he spent most of the afternoon fussing with it while he kept watch, aww. 🥰 So far he’s been a really great first time dad! His instincts are 👌 on point.
🤢 Today’s cute family pic includes snacks that have been around the nest for quite a few days now, so I’ve tried to cover up the grossness as best as I can, sorry ya’ll.. When it was freezing out, everything was frozen solid so it wasn’t quite as gross, but it was almost 50 today, so, no thank you.
🦨 Sometimes I think it would be really fun to spend a day up in the nest, but then I remember I’d have to wear a clothespin over my nose while covered in a hazmat suit (or maybe our girl B.K. has an extra space suit I could borrow? 😇), and I rethink how enjoyable that experience truly would be. 🤮 Thank goodness for this smell-free non-invasive nature cam, instead, phew. 😮💨

It is going to be even more interesting this time! 3 little eagles.
Do you have any info about the little eagles from last year?
