In 2011, 5 chariots and 12 horse skeletons were found in a tomb in the city of Luoyang, China. Eastern Zhou dynasty period, about 2,500 years ago.
Chinese kings were buried with their servants and animals, consumed poison to die without blood. They stopped at around end of Warring States period and replaced people with figurines. Emperor of Qin dynasty made terracotta warriors because killing people was expensive even for kings and emperors.
Chariots were used by Chinese before they developed widespread horseback riding because stirrups were not invented at this time. These chariots are more advanced, as signified by number of wheel spoked and size of axle hub. More spoked and bigger axle hub.
Nomads kicked their asses because riding horseback was more agile than chariots.
