CONTROVERSIAL POST 1 of 2:

Hope all is well!

I have a confession to make: Since creating an account on this censorship-resistant social network - I have been censoring myself :(

Way back in August of 2016, I created my first web3 account on Steemit and then moved to the community fork HIVE - so I have been watching and reading about web3 social for a very long time (5.5y!).

So after being here for a while I started to have Deja Vu: Wait, haven't I heard these complaints before, and aren't those the same problems that were fixed before, and why do these features all sound so familiar!? I must say something about this!

And so I did, I posted a suggestion referencing HIVE on the DeSo Official Discord.

Then I got a DM from someone else who was on HIVE warning me not to "shill other projects" because they were warned not to after speaking of HIVE!

I deleted my comments.

A chill set in.

I held back.

Then, I saw a request for questions and I asked one (without referencing HIVE) and reached out to someone I thought was on the DeSo Core Team - this is some of what I said:

(About, "When will we be able to launch a Community on-chain without needing to launch a node?")

I have been on STEEM/HIVE since it launched and am excited about DeSo, but I keep wondering if your team has fully studied STEEM/HIVE?

It seems that you are often trying to reinvent the wheel and solve problems that have already been solved?

I am at your party - so out of Respect I don't want to shout: "Yo, the party somewhere else is already lit, packed, and they have a better sound system!" <3

Truly I think that your teams >Connections< and plan to put all the essentials on layer1 will make DeSo win soon, whereas HIVE has failed to go mainstream in 5 years (and that is not because they have bad tech)!

Onward and Upward :)" [END QUOTE]

[QUOTE] "As I said above, I have been there since almost the beginning.

I was waiting for it to really take off before actually releasing all my content there, but got tired of waiting and moved on.

I do know it pretty well still.

Anyone who was interested in web3 before the hype, before defi, and probably way before Nader started thinking about it, knows about STEEM and HIVE and the community revolt against STEEM which gave birth to HIVE.

I am not sure if it's a failure to do due diligence or maybe the pride of going at it all alone and not wanting to copy... but the team's apparent lack of knowledge about HIVE is a mystery to me?

I am available to answer questions if needed but the websites are pretty thorough.

Btw, that revolution from STEEM to HIVE via hardfork should be studied as a cautionary tale about what happens when you build a community of users and developers who feel abandoned by self-appointed leaders who are perceived to be focused only on how much money they have and will make!

The same complaints about lack of decentralization and insiders and founders remaining the biggest whales for too many years were one of the main reasons the majority of the community forked to the new chain AND put their copy of the founder's stake into a community-controlled (DAO) fund!" [QUOTE] "Ahhh, I thought you were officially in the team... You get referenced a lot!

I really don't want to come off as threatening or encourage a rebellion.

I think this project is early and that they should get a chance to really prove themselves.

You are welcome to Google how STEEM became HIVE and mention it.

... But, if this tech is good and the leadership fails, just know that there is always a plan b with open source, it can and will be forked.

Personally, I am very annoyed by all the NFT posts and plan to launch a node that offers the option to filter them all a. Hidden, b. Into their own feed.

My sense about the success of this project is based on the tech and the potential to bring my own community here, not on what the team does or who else is here already." [END QUOTE]

It felt good to tell someone how I was feeling and what I was thinking, but I still kept it to myself... (1 of 2)
