🥚 I have some news to share with ya’ll tonight: As you can see from this picture, there was only one egg in the nest.
However….
🤔 During the day, it was just Mom and she’d been mostly pretty quiet, incubating the one lone egg. But then toward the late afternoon, New Dad showed up. He started bringing a bunch of twigs and food..
👀 I just had a feeling.. perhaps another egg was going to get laid soon. Just before an egg gets laid, it’s like they suddenly go into frantic nesting mode, ha! The Dad shows up and they both start nervous cleaning, renovating, eating, cleaning.. and then all of a sudden.. Mom stood up and…
🥚🥚 TWO eggs appeared!!!
😍 Twins!! Just like we were hoping for- again!!
🤞 I am really holding out hope that she’ll stop at two- three eggs is adorable but it’s actually a bit of a bad omen.. Based on average laying patterns, if she will lay a third, it’s expected to happen around Sunday or Monday, so I’ll definitely keep ya’ll posted. 👀 She didn’t lay a third last year, but we also have a New Baby Daddy this year. Hmm.. Maybe she’s feeling emboldened from last years success? It’s anyones guess!!
📸 Two pics tonight, but only one egg, sorry ya’ll! I tried to get a pic of the second- I swear there’s two under there! She’s been giving them a quick eggroll every now and then, but you can tell from the second pic that she’s super tired, aww. 🥰 We’ll let her rest. 💖
😂 Isn’t this stuff such a thrill!? I honestly love it.
✨ Hope everyone is having a good evening, out there. We need to rest, too. Zzz.
🎉 PS, notice how in the first pic, Mom is holding a teensy little pompom?! 🤣 She flew out for a total of like two minutes to grab a corn stalk sticking out of the snow- presumably to celebrate the new arrival that was dropping soon, aww. 😇
(A quick refresher: Our Mom eagle is a quirky turkey- she LOVES cornstalks!! Last year I stupidly thought it was just because she liked to wave them around 'for fun', but we learned that they're actually super absorbent, so make for great nesting material. 🤣 However, having observed other eagle nests, my family and I can confirm, she truly does seem to play with them, aww. Other eagles I've watched typically treat it like any other nesting material.)
