Hey everyone! We hope everybody is enjoying the weekend. Just wanted to quickly share some updates for DAODAO as we have an exciting week ahead of us.
First, just a quick note. We have some sad but exciting news! Our favorite community and spaces host, @erikaechaniz who joined us this summer, landed an awesome opportunity with her very own Symmetrical DAO. They were recently sponsored and funded to receive grants from top-tier DAOs and VCs, which will now let Erika pursue her passion in a more full-time capacity! (twitter.com/TheSymmetrical/status/1567208304035926016). This is an excellent real-life case-study for everyone who wants to see how DAOs can be a great flexible environment to work in and find your true passions. Erika will be with the DAODAO team in a more part-time/internship capacity, and then move on to pursue running her very own GenZ Investment DAO! Let's all wish her luck!
In terms of what to look forward to next — we've had so many good conversations with DAOs and Web3 builders.
It was clear that the two most important things for DAOs were building community and having a stable treasury that can support their mission.
We've been hard at work building features like:
• MetaMask Integration = Launching this week! This will allow DAO teams and communities, to attract more people to their DAOs by enabling them to signup via MetaMask.
• DESO Stablecoin & USD Treasury Support = DAODAO will be the first platform to utilize the brand new DESO stablecoin: "DeSoDollar". It will enable the ability to have a stablecoin treasury while accepting contributions that support swapping other currencies like SOL, BTC, ETH, DESO and potentially any currency we decide to prioritize adding in the future. There will also be a non-KYC USDC cash-out function!
• DAO Coin Gated Chats = In order to build community, DAO coins need more utility so they can be kept attractive to DAO members. Thanks to the DeSo Messenger team, we'll soon have the ability to gate group chats via DAO Coin. We are also building the functionality at the DeSo core level to support end-to-end on-chain and encrypted group chats, so you can easily move between DAODAO and DeSo Messenger (which has way more exciting messaging features!) to engage your community.
On the marketing front, we're focusing on a three-part strategy that helps experiment with building pipelines in multiple directions.
1) Inbound Pipeline from DeSo Foundation — We are revamping DeSo's website and marketing funnels to attract web3 builders and point them to DAODAO for funding and building community. You can see a very early example at the bottom of this page here, but expect this to appear in more places in the funnel and have more prominence soon: signup.deso.org/explore — We believe it's worth the effort & focus because strongly positioning DeSo should attract builders and capital.
2) Inbound Pipeline from Hackathon — We are in talks with a top-tier university (Princeton), and a few others as well. We're narrowing in on details and trying to organize a hybrid remote/on-campus hackathon for engineering and entrepreneurship students in Blockchain and Web3 programs. We think we can pioneer a whole new model where DAOs become a new vehicle for hackathon participants to pursue their projects full-time! Beyond just the initial 2-3 days, they work on it. In addition to students, we will be inviting investors to sponsor DAODAO and drive more institutional capital into it as well.
3) Outbound Pipelines — We are continuing to reach out and talk to DAOs, investors and develop more strategic partnerships. We'll be hiring someone to lead this effort who has more experience in a Biz Dev role.
In the meantime, let's continue to spread awareness about DAOs, and help DAO founders and communities succeed!

Today, it feels like DeSo is roughly where Solana was around Dec 2020 (~70M mkt cap)

Before joining DeSo, I asked a friend of mine, who’s a prominent investor in web3:
“What would you look for in a crypto company?”
And one of the things she said was, “You know, there’s not that many mission-driven web3 companies out there. Find something that has a clear mission and purpose, and is looking to solve a meaningful problem.”
This always stuck with me.
And as I learn more about the space, it’s become more clear and more important.
In web2, this founding principle is critical when joining or investing in a startup, somehow we often disregard it in web3.
I started working on DeSo in 2019, and to this day there is nobody really focused on solving the "hard tech" problems needed to fight mass censorship on social media
And we still live in a world where 5 corporations effectively control everything we do online
