I've never seen my trad social media feeds so cluttered with US political content... and I'm not even from the States.

My Twitter feed is deporting immigrants and my YouTube algo is setting fires to Teslas.

I'm literally staying in a country that couldn't give two fucks and trad social media is still trying to get me to take a side.

I choose Netflix because at least it's still recommending me anime.

Understanding Your Feelings in Therapy: When to Seek Change
Deciding to visit a psychologist often comes after much contemplation. This step typically arises from feeling that something in life isn’t right, leading to the hope that therapy can provide clarity and strategies for improvement. However, it’s not uncommon to leave therapy sessions feeling worse than when you entered. This article explores why this might happen, what it means, and when it’s time to consider a change.

Why Does Therapy Sometimes Feel Difficult?
Before jumping to conclusions about the effectiveness of therapy or your psychologist, it's essential to recognize that discomfort can be part of the healing process. Therapy isn’t meant to be a cushy experience; rather, it acts as an emotional workout. Just like physical exercise, it can be painful at times, especially when addressing past traumas or challenging deeply held beliefs.

Think of it like carrying a heavy backpack filled with stones, each representing fears, traumas, or limiting beliefs. Therapy involves unpacking that backpack, examining each stone, and often confronting uncomfortable feelings. While this may hurt, it is also a necessary step toward feeling lighter and more empowered.

Reflections on the Therapeutic Process
Therapy is Not Instant Relief: It’s crucial to understand that therapy is not a quick fix. Just as physical training takes time to yield results, emotional healing requires patience and effort. If feelings of discomfort arise, it might indicate the work is beginning to take effect.
The Role of the Psychologist: Think of the psychologist as a mirror reflecting your behaviors, fears, and patterns. This reflection might not always be pleasant, but it is vital for growth. A good psychologist will help you recognize these aspects without judgment, reinforcing that the discomfort you feel can be a sign of progress.
Self-Reflection is Key: Sometimes, the discomfort stems from your expectations. If you enter therapy expecting immediate answers or solutions, frustration can arise. Therapy requires honesty and a willingness to explore uncomfortable truths.
Recognizing When to Be Concerned
While some discomfort is a normal part of therapy, certain signs may indicate a need for reevaluation:

Feeling Judged or Invalidated: If the psychologist minimizes your feelings or judges your experiences, this is a significant red flag. Therapy should be a safe space for expression, not a courtroom.
Lack of Progress: If, after several sessions, there’s no noticeable change in your feelings or situation, it may be time to reassess whether the therapeutic approach is suitable for you. Therapy should lead to gradual improvements, even if they are small.
Consistent Distress: While some sessions may be more intense than others, if each visit leaves you feeling overwhelmed and without coping tools, it may indicate that the therapy is not beneficial. A supportive psychologist should help equip you with strategies to manage difficulties.

What to Do If Therapy Isn’t Working
Communicate Openly: Discuss your feelings with your psychologist. While it may feel uncomfortable, a good professional will appreciate your honesty and adjust their approach if necessary.
Reevaluate Expectations: Reflect on what you hoped to gain from therapy. Understanding that it is a journey can help align your expectations with reality.
Give It Time: Remember that healing is a process. Allow yourself the space to feel uncomfortable, and acknowledge that change takes time.
Consider a Change: If after honest discussions you still feel unsatisfied, it may be wise to seek a different therapist. Finding the right fit is crucial for effective therapy, much like finding the right pair of shoes.

Embracing Individuality: Finding Connection in a Modern World

At 20 years old, navigating the complexities of relationships and self-identity can be challenging. After five years of being single, with only one previous boyfriend and minimal physical intimacy, it’s normal to crave both personal space and the desire to share experiences with a potential partner. However, feeling disconnected from contemporary dating culture can complicate matters further.

Understanding the Situation

The modern dating landscape often seems dominated by superficial encounters, especially in places like nightclubs, which can feel impersonal and overwhelming. For someone who appreciates unique interests—like vintage music, classic films, and literature—finding a compatible partner can feel daunting. Additionally, the pressure to conform to popular styles and trends can create a sense of alienation.

Embracing Your Unique Identity

  1. Celebrate Your Passions: Instead of viewing your interests as barriers, embrace them as part of your identity. Engaging in activities you love not only enriches your life but also increases the likelihood of meeting like-minded individuals. Whether it’s joining a club focused on vintage music or participating in outdoor sports, these environments can foster authentic connections.
  2. Explore Alternative Social Spaces: Instead of the typical nightclub scene, seek out venues that align with your interests. Attend local concerts, art exhibits, or book readings. These spaces attract people who share similar passions, providing a more comfortable atmosphere for organic interactions.
  3. Be Open to Vulnerability: While it’s natural to feel hesitant about opening up, vulnerability can be a powerful tool in forming connections. Sharing your passions and interests can invite others to do the same, leading to deeper conversations and relationships.
  4. Cultivate Confidence in Your Style: It’s understandable to feel pressure to conform to societal standards of beauty. However, embracing your unique style can help you stand out in a crowd. Experiment with fashion choices that reflect your personality, even if they differ from mainstream trends. Authenticity often attracts genuine interest.
  5. Utilize Online Platforms: Consider using social media or dating apps that cater to niche interests. Platforms that focus on specific hobbies or lifestyles can help connect you with individuals who appreciate the same things you do.

Navigating the Dating Scene

  1. Be Clear About Your Intentions: When meeting new people, it’s essential to communicate your desires and boundaries. If you’re looking for a meaningful connection, express that early on to avoid misunderstandings.
  2. Practice Patience: Building relationships takes time. It’s important to remain patient and not rush into situations that don’t feel right. Focus on cultivating friendships first, as these can often lead to deeper romantic connections over time.
  3. Seek Supportive Communities: Surround yourself with friends or groups that uplift you. Having a solid support system can provide encouragement and confidence as you navigate the dating world.

The release of WhaleDThanks made me reflect on the type of engagement that I enjoy here as a content creator on Focus.

While I truly and sincerely appreciate all the engagement I receive here on a daily basis, I wanted to do something for community members that went beyond the like/ diamond/ repost and engaged me in conversation as a human being.

I wear many hats here on Focus... writer, shit poster, streamer, philosopher, tokenomics-guy, AI degen and probably many others, but it warms my heart when community members engage with me regardless of the rabbit hole that I decide to jump down.

I won't necessarily fully agree with the opinions of others here on the platform, but mutual respect despite that diversity is the difference between me willing to be reciprocal or not. The occasional lack of manners is also the reason why I have a block list that is used handily and avidly.

I also won't always announce when a WhaleDThanks has been issued as I find it a little tacky so please check your notification boxes on @NFTz on a regular basis.

Finally, if you did not receive a NFT, please don't feel like I don't see or appreciate you. I try to go through all my notifications on a daily basis and am very familiar with the names that interact positively with my content.

Maybe in the near future, while you're reading through one of my many posts, drop a reply and say hello and share your opinions with me too ❤️
